Kashmir Experiences Relief from Intense Cold as Night Temperatures Rise

Srinagar: A noticeable rise in minimum temperatures across Kashmir brought much-needed relief from the biting cold on Tuesday. According to the Meteorological Department, the region is set to experience predominantly dry weather in the coming days.

Srinagar and several other areas, except for the ski resort of Gulmarg, recorded warmer nights with improved minimum temperatures. Despite this rise, the night temperatures across the valley remain slightly below the seasonal average. Srinagar witnessed a low of 1.8°C, a significant increase from the previous night’s -0.8°C.

Qazigund, often referred to as the gateway to the Kashmir Valley, recorded a minimum of 0.5°C, while Pahalgam, a key base camp for the Amarnath Yatra, saw temperatures drop to -1.8°C. Gulmarg registered the coldest night with -2.4°C, while Kupwara and Kokernag recorded 1.8°C and -0.2°C, respectively.

The Meteorological Department has predicted generally dry weather on Tuesday, with a slight chance of isolated light rain or snow in higher altitudes. Dry conditions are expected to continue from December 4 to December 7, with a possibility of light rain or snow in the upper reaches between the evening of December 8 and the morning of December 9. From December 10 to 14, the valley is likely to remain dry, with no significant wet weather expected during this period.

This respite from extreme cold is welcome news for residents, who are preparing for the peak winter months ahead.
