Kashmir and Ladakh Shiver Under Intense Cold Wave, Temperatures Plummet
The picturesque valleys of Kashmir and Ladakh are gripped by a severe cold wave, with temperatures plunging to freezing lows, creating a frosty landscape across the region.
In Kashmir, the popular ski destination Gulmarg recorded a chilling low of minus 7.6 degrees Celsius, slightly warmer than the previous night’s minus 9.6 degrees. However, Pahalgam, a famed health resort, emerged as the coldest spot in the valley, registering a biting minus 8.4 degrees Celsius.
Tourist hotspot Sonamarg bore the brunt of the icy weather, freezing at minus 9.6 degrees Celsius. Other regions followed suit, with Shopian recording minus 8.3 degrees, Pulwama minus 7.9 degrees, Anantnag minus 7.7 degrees, and Kulgam minus 5.9 degrees Celsius.
Qazigund, known as the gateway to Kashmir, shivered at minus 5.6 degrees, while the Kupwara district in North Kashmir dipped to minus 4.7 degrees. Kokernag in South Kashmir wasn’t spared either, freezing at minus 4.2 degrees Celsius. Similarly, Budgam logged minus 5.5 degrees, Ganderbal minus 4.8 degrees, and Bandipora minus 4.2 degrees Celsius.
The bone-chilling conditions aren’t limited to Kashmir. In Ladakh, temperatures dropped to extreme lows, with Kargil recording a frigid minus 14.3 degrees Celsius and Leh close behind at minus 13 degrees Celsius.
