Cold wave conditions intensify in Kashmir; Srinagar records minus 5.3 degree Celsius

The Kashmir Valley is currently grappling with an intense cold wave, as temperatures have dropped significantly below freezing. The small hamlet of Konibal, near Pampore town, stood out as the coldest spot in the valley, recording an extreme low of minus 8.5 degrees Celsius.

In Srinagar, the minimum temperature fell further to minus 5.3 degrees Celsius, a sharp decline from the previous night’s minus 3.4 degrees Celsius. The severe chill has led to the partial freezing of water bodies, including the iconic Dal Lake. This marks an early onset of harsh winter conditions in the region, impacting daily life and hinting at even colder days ahead.
