Srinagar Police Seizes Drug Peddlers’ Assets Worth ₹20 Lakhs in Downtown Crackdown

Srinagar, Dec 17: In a significant step toward combating the drug menace, Srinagar Police has attached movable assets worth ₹20 lakhs belonging to two alleged drug peddlers from the downtown area. The seized assets include two vehicles reportedly acquired through the proceeds of illicit drug sales.

The accused, identified as Altaf Ahmad Shah alias Pacha, a resident of Dalal Mohalla, and Rakib Ahmad Dar, a resident of Rajouri Kadal, are implicated in cases registered under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. The properties were attached following investigations into FIR No. 48/2024 and FIR No. 51/2024, both registered under Section 8/21 of the NDPS Act at Police Station MR Gunj.

According to a police statement issued to the press, the attachment was carried out under Section 68-F of the NDPS Act after thorough legal procedures were followed. The move is part of Srinagar Police’s ongoing campaign to dismantle the financial networks of those involved in drug trafficking.

“This decisive action underscores our commitment to eradicating the drug menace. We will continue to target drug peddlers and seize their illegally acquired assets as part of our comprehensive crackdown,” said a senior police official.

Over the past few months, Srinagar Police has intensified its efforts against drug trafficking, focusing not only on arrests but also on disrupting the economic foundations of the illegal trade. These measures are part of a broader strategy to achieve a drug-free society, reflecting the unwavering commitment of Jammu and Kashmir Police to safeguard public health and safety.

The crackdown has received widespread support from the community, with many urging authorities to sustain the momentum in the fight against drug abuse and its devastating impact on society.
