Jammu, December 18, 2024 – Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha reaffirmed Jammu and Kashmir’s emergence as a hub for national and international sporting events, emphasizing the transformative power of sports in fostering cultural connections and societal change. Addressing the Prof Chaman Lal Gupta Khel Ratna Award 2024 ceremony, Sinha celebrated the achievements of awardees and paid tribute to the late union minister Prof Chaman Lal Gupta on his anniversary.

“Sports is a powerful tool for positive change and has always served as a bridge to connect people of different cultures,” Sinha remarked. “Jammu and Kashmir’s renewed focus on world-class sports infrastructure and nurturing young talent has revolutionized the region’s sporting ecosystem.”

Highlighting recent progress, the LG shared that last year, over 53 lakh children and youth from J&K participated in various sports, with 30,000 representing the region in national and zonal tournaments. Remarkably, 46 athletes from J&K showcased their skills on international platforms, a testament to the region’s growing prominence in the global sports arena.

Sinha attributed this transformation to the government’s proactive measures, including the implementation of a progressive sports policy. “The new sports policy has kindled brighter hope for our talented sportspersons,” he said.

Honoring Excellence in Sports

The Prof Chaman Lal Gupta Khel Ratna Award recognized the outstanding contributions of athletes and sports officials in J&K. The Lieutenant Governor lauded their dedication and emphasized their role as ambassadors of positive change.

“All the sports personalities awarded today are living embodiments of the positive change taking place in J&K. I am confident they will inspire the younger generation to achieve new heights and bring glory to the nation,” Sinha added.

Tribute to Prof Chaman Lal Gupta

In his address, Sinha honored the legacy of Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, describing him as a visionary leader committed to the welfare of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “The rapid development J&K has witnessed in the last few years is our tribute to Prof Gupta,” he said.

Sinha reiterated the government’s commitment to nurturing budding athletes under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stressed that a vibrant sports ecosystem in Jammu and Kashmir is unlocking opportunities for youth, empowering them to achieve their aspirations.

“Today, J&K stands as a beacon of hope and ambition in the sports world, driven by the dreams of its youth and the unwavering support of the government,” Sinha concluded.
